Mystery froglets.
June 4, 2016
Okay, naturalists. Last weekend Penny and I explored Glacier National Park’s Avalanche Creek area. Well, we would have hiked to the lake but a sign forbid us from taking our loyal emotional support service animal, Gunther.
So we turned around after admiring some towering cedars. Penny stopped at Avalanche Falls and, as I stumbled up some wooden steps, I spied what looked like a big bug. Peering closer, I saw a tiny frog or toad, entirely black. Then another, and another. Many in all. I called Penny who ignored me. I made my voice more imperious and she came and admired the frogs too. I promised to Google them. We saw two or three frogs that had gotten flattened, no doubt, by a tourist’s foot.
Black froglet, 1.5 to 2 cm long (head to butt). No coloration. Seen on wet wooden stairs of walkway near Avalanche Falls, West side of Glacier. I suppose they could have been immature colorful frogs. I’ve been called worse than that, myself.
What kind of frog did we see? Anyone?
